Silvertip
The most expensive badger shaving brush.A true silvertip brushes have off white tips that are flared, fluffy, allowing for the most water retention. Always inspect one of these shaving brushes before buying to make sure you are get the real deal. Unfortunately it is common for higher grade best hair to be bleached at its end to look like silvertip hair. While both super badger and silvertip badger are premium brushes, silvertip badger are the most expensive and luxurious ones due to its rarity, fluffiness and superior water retention.
To determine whether a brush bears a true ‘silvertip’ hair load you need to inspect the colour of the bristle tips. A true ‘silvertip’ brush has tips that are an off-white.

Super
A super badger shaving brush is a more expensive than either ‘best’ or ‘pure’. It is normally plucked from the back of the badger. Super badger brushes are known for their distinctive white band capped with white tips, presented in a fan shape. If you are planning on indulging on a super badger brush, always be sure that you are getting what you expect. Unfortunately it is very common for hair that is branded ‘super’ to be in fact highly graded ‘pure’ hair which is bleached on the the ends to resemble super.
Though it is composed of ‘pure’ badger hairs, ‘super’ is graded and sorted to such a degree that its performance is superior to that of ‘best’. The brush is not prickly.
One way to determine if a brush bears a ‘super’ hair load is to inspect the colour of the bristle tips. A ‘super’ brush on the other hand has bristle tips that are a more sterile, slightly grey white; moreover, the light color of the tips does not extend as far down the shaft of the hair.

Best
Best badger brushes are shaving brushes made with the more pliable, softer hairs from approximately 20-25% of the badger’s body. It is longer and has a lighter color than pure badger. A ‘best’ badger brush is more densely filled with hair than the ‘pure’ badger brush and will produce a correspondingly greater lather. Best badger and better quality brush hairs are often fit so that the ends do not have to be cut to shape whereas pure badger hair is trimmed to shape, resulting in rougher ends.

Pure
A Pure Badger Hair Shaving brush generally contains hair from the underbody of a badger. This hair varies in softness, is usually darker and its longer shafts make it coarser than other badger hair. However it is also the most common as it covers the largest area of the badger’s body. This is why shaving brushes made entirely from pure badger hair are quite a bit cheaper than best or silvertip badge.
